Evening Workouts Lower Blood Sugar.

Does when you exercise matter? According to a new study by scientists at the University of Granada, it does, especially if you’re at risk for diabetes. They found that working out at night can significantly lower blood sugar levels in adults who are overweight or obese.

Published in the journal *Obesity*, the research suggests that doing moderate-to-vigorous exercise in the evening can help your body manage glucose better. This study looked at 186 sedentary adults, tracking their activity and blood sugar for 14 days using both accelerometers and glucose monitors.

Participants who did most of their exercise between 6 p.m. and midnight saw their average 24-hour glucose levels drop by about 1.26 mg/dL compared to inactive days. At night, their glucose dropped even more, by 2.16 mg/dL. Afternoon workouts were also helpful, reducing glucose by nearly 1 mg/dL over a full day and by 1.72 mg/dL at night. Morning exercise, however, didn’t show significant benefits.

The positive effects were strongest in those with impaired glucose regulation, suggesting evening exercise might be especially powerful for those at higher risk of diabetes. The study highlights the importance of exercise timing, showing that evening workouts could be a key to better metabolic health.
