Exercise and Sunscreen Keep You Looking Young

Ever wondered why some people seem to defy the march of time? A new study reveals intriguing clues about what helps make us look younger. Researchers, led by Dr. Dundar Yolsal and Dr. Ozlem Esme, investigated how exercise, sun protection, and facial measurements affect perceived age among 250 Turkish women.

The study had ten experts score the ages of the women based on facial photos. The results were quite revealing! Staying active through regular exercise showed a strong link to looking younger (p = .001). Sunscreen use also proved crucial, with consistent users appearing younger (p = .001). Even mild sun damage (photodamage stage 1–2) was found to impact age perception (p = .001).

But that’s not all—certain facial features also played a role. The study found that the length of the palpebral fissure (the opening between the eyelids) (p = .043) and the height of the upper vermilion (the upper lip’s border) (p = .019) were significant indicators of a youthful look.

So, if you want to keep that youthful glow, don’t skip your workout and always remember to put on sunscreen! Who knew a bit of exercise and sun protection could keep Father Time at bay?
